Bahu Fort overlooking the Tawi river is almost
3000 years old in Jammu.
The Amar Mahal Palace Museum and Dogra
Art Gallery are worth visiting.
The Raghunath and Ranbireshwar temples
are also worth seeing. The Vaishno Devi Temple
is an important place for Hindu pilgrimage, with a steep climb.
Srinagar-
is located in the middle of the valley and is the summer capital
of the state.
Hazratbal Mosque is famous for a single hair
of the Prophet Mohammad is preserved there. Hamdan
Mosque is famous for its papiermache work on the
ceiling.
Hari Parbat fort was built by an Afghan governor
across Nagin Lake. One can enjoy water-skiing and swimming on
this lake. Pari Mahal was a school of astrology
which is lit up at night overlooking the lake.
Chashma Shahi has a cool mineral water spring and a beautiful
garden. Nishat Bagh is set on the banks of Dal Lake. Shalimar
Bagh is the loveliest of all with four rising terraces, a central
canal and a son-et-lumiere show.
Shankaracharya Temple was built around 200
B.C. by Emperor Ashoka's son. The present temple was built during
Jahangirs' reign.
Gulmarg-
is a rolling meadow full of flowers. Winter sports facilities
are very popular here and draw an international crowd.
Pahalgam -
is ideal for trekking, picnics and trout fishing.
Pampore-
is the only saffron growing area in Asia.
Amarnath
Caves-
is an important Hindu Shrine, with the Sheshnag lake.
Ladakh-
actually translates an 'The Land of Passes'. It is an high altitude
desert located at a height of 3,597 metres.
